After Church Atlas
The After Church Atlas collects and presents data on church closure, focusing on the cultural meanings and dynamics informing the transformations taking place at former places of worship.
A key aim of the Atlas is to gather data on the phenomenon, creating a space where researchers, stakeholders, and the general public may effectively share and participate in knowledge production. We are looking into casting a wider net, to gather data on the closure and transformation of places of worship, more generally conceived. In this project, the focus in on church closure.
The project is led by Dr. Barry Stephenson and Dr. Nicholas Lynch, of Memorial University. The Atlas is managed by the Canadian Institute for Empirical Church Research out of Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto.
